Use AI with limited connectivity

Power cuts, data limits and slow networks: practical ways to use AI within your data budget.

Goal

Adapt AI use to a slow or expensive connection.

In many places, connectivity can be slow, unreliable or costly. Text exchanges generally use little data compared with images, video and large uploads.

Habits for a small data plan

  • Choose text where possible instead of voice, images or large files.
  • Prepare offline : draft in your notes, connect, paste, save the response and disconnect.
  • Ask for short answers : “Use no more than ten lines” or “Give me five bullet points.”
  • Group your questions into one message when that makes sense.
  • Save useful responses in your notes to read without a connection.
  • Turn off automatic media downloads in WhatsApp's storage and data settings.

AI where you already work

Some assistants may be available inside messaging apps, depending on your location. Check availability, data use and privacy terms before choosing a service.

The low-data prompt

Reply very concisely in plain text only, without an introduction or conclusion. No table or image. Maximum 120 words. If my question is unclear, ask one question before answering.

Today's challenge

Save the low-data prompt in your notes. Use it this week and compare the length and usefulness of the responses.
